Franklin Ave SE Bike Lane Update

On January 21st, a meeting about the addition of bike lanes and traffic calming on Franklin Ave SE was held at St. Frances Cabrini Church. We had previously notified the community about a proposal to add bike lanes to Franklin Ave SE. Looking at the project, there are some clear benefits to having a bike lane installed on this stretch of Franklin Ave SE when it is resurfaced in 2016. The project would stretch from the Franklin Bridge to Emerald St SE.

3rd Avenue Update

Our city’s planned flagship protected bikeway is planned to be built on 3rd Avenue South this summer. There have been some setbacks after the project was approved, and at last night’s (Feb. 16th) Bicycle Advisory Committee’s engineering subcommittee meeting, we got an update on 3rd Ave S. The Latest Federal Transportation Bill and Biking

In December of last year, Congress and President Obama passed a long-term transportation bill into law. The FAST (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation) Act is a five-year bill that ensures funding through 2020. Despite several attempts to amend the bill to remove any spending for bicycle-related projects, the final version of the law has received victory calls from cyclists and cyclist advocates across the nation.
