Sponsor a Bike Rack
Do you want more to see more bike parking in Minneapolis? Are there businesses you visit that simply don't have enough parking to meet the demand? Here's your chance to do something about it!
The City is switching from the old-style parking meters to a new pay station system in Downtown (including North Loop), Uptown, the West Bank, Dinkytown and Stadium Village. This makes it possible to transform the existing meter posts into bike parking.
Thanks to a 50/50 cost match from the City, you can sponsor turning a parking meter into a bike rack in any of the above neighborhoods for only $50 per meter.
You have two options:
-
Preferred: Fill out this form and send with a check for $50 payable to Dero Bike Rack Company to: Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, c/o Janne Flisrand, 2112 Dupont Ave. S, #2, Minneapolis, MN 55405. -
Donate via PayPal here. The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition will pass along any payments directly to sponsor bike racks through the City's program. We recommend $50 donations, but you can choose the amount that works for you. If you (or you and a friend) donate $50 you may select a specific meter location. Please note the meter number in the donation notes, and list all donors if you go in with a group.
The first Open Streets volunteer event of 2012
Come to the first Open Streets volunteer event of 2012!
Help us with a big step to getting the permit for the next Open Streets event. Spend an hour or two getting business and residential support along Lyndale in preparation for a June 10th event on either:
Fri 3/23, 4pm-7pm -or-
Sun 3/25, 2pm-5pm
Volunteers will collect as many signatures as possible and leave notification door-hangers. This is a requirement of the application we have to submit to the City.
Arrive any time between 4-6pm on Friday and 2-4pm on Sunday. Each volunteer should expect to take a block or two (and bring a friend—it’s more fun to do in pairs!). Last year about 15 people came over three days, and while it was quick work, we’d love to get it done even faster this year!
Let us know which day you’ll be coming with an e-mail to [email protected], but feel free to show up even if you don’t send a note. Meet at Bull Run Coffee (3346 Lyndale Ave S). We will have someone stationed there for the whole time passing out materials and instructions and collecting block signature forms.
If you want to help out but can’t make this round, we’ll need more volunteers before and during the day of the event!
